MICHAEL KATHLEEN "KATHY" FLINN ~ Class of 1965
April 29, 1947 - September 8, 2018
~
It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Kathleen Flinn announces her passing due to complications in surgery after suffering a heart attack, on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the age of 71.
Michael was born in the Tri-Cities to Hazel and John Flinn on April 29, 1947.
She was raised alongside her sister Jean and brother John. There she grew up and
eventually married her 1st husband David with whom she had twin sons Jason and
Anthony.
She graduated from Columbia High School (aka Richland High School) in 1965. She also studied and received her bachelor’s degree in psychology
from Washington State University.
Later she met and married Scott Ellis. Their lives took them to the small town of
Alliance, NE to the remote farm life of Burea, where they eventually migrated and
settled in Lincoln, NE raising her boys through high school.
After her marriage to Scott ended, Michael’s life became somewhat nomadic. She lived
in Las Vegas, Albuquerque and Washington. She then moved to Lincoln to be close to her son
Tony, his wife Courtney and her granddaughter Liza. She was a loving mother and
grandmother, always willing to help and contribute to the family.
As Michael’s mother’s health began to fail, she moved back to Washington to help her
sister Jean with the care of their mother. After Hazel’s passing, Michael, moved yet
again to Littleton, CO to be near her son Jason, his wife Allie and their daughter
Mia. There she took great joy as a mother and grandmother. Some of her favorite
times were cooking for the Piccoli’s and Coopers, taking care of Mia and her almost
nightly porch talks with Jason.
A current theme for Michael in the last years of her life was that ‘I live in paradise.
Surrounded by love and beauty’. Having recovered her ability to walk after a double
knee surgery, she spent her days living next to a lake with miles of walking paths. In
Colorado, we believe she found the home she’d so long searched for. For her, it was a
place filled with lots of little adventures and mysteries, and rich with love, purpose, and
joy.
Michael is survived by her sons Jason (Allie), Tony (Courtney),
granddaughters Mia and Liza, sister Jean, brother John, along with
numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins to whom she loved and was loved by.
A Celebration of Michael’s life was held at 2:00 PM, on Saturday September 15, at
Three Trees Chapel, 13416 W Arbor Pl, Littleton, CO 80127. Reception followed
at Wolhurst, Community Hall, 8201 Sante Fe Dr, Littleton, CO 80120 at 3:30 pm.
