RICHARD BUHL "RICK" WARFORD ~ Class of 1965
January 14, 1946 - December 12, 2024

Rick Warford

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend, uncle and brother, Richard Buhl Warford, on December 12, 2024, at the age of 78. He was a beloved member of the Warford family and will be remembered for his hard work and willingness to help.

Rick was born on January 14, 1946, in Richland. He was one of the first babies born at Kadlec Hospital, a proud member of the 'Sorry Seven'.

Rick attended schools in Richland including Chief Jo Junior High School and graduated from Richland's Columbia High School in 1965.

He worked hard and liked to travel to new places or spend time with friends, usually outdoors. If you needed anything Rick was always there to help. "Just call me," he would say, "and I'll be there." All his family and friends knew you could rely on him. He taught elementary physical education in the Seattle school system for 30 years, as well as driver education, while remodeling the homes he lived in. Rick liked to stay busy, and he always had a project. His passion was redesigned homes--he loved working with his hands and solving a construction problem. He drove to Richland often to see family and friends. He spent many years close to his brother, Charles, who lived near him in Seattle. His closest friends, Brian ('65) and Cindy Johnson, spent significant time with him in his later years. His cousin, Jill Dayerling, would call Rick often and keep him close, chatting about life. We all adore and love him and know he is at peace.

He is survived by his older sisters and brother, Virginia Rhoades ('55), Charles Warford ('61), and Jane Rawson, along with six nieces and nephews, and many, many longtime and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Willie Warford.

His legacy as a friend who would always be there when you needed him, and as a person who worked hard and loved to build with his hands will live on in all of us.

He will be missed greatly.
