Gary Dean Slater, age 55, passed away on December 22, 2001 at home in West Richland. He was born in Richland on December 12, 1946 to Glen and Vera Slater. He resided in this area all of his life.

He graduated with the Class of 1965 from Richland's Columbia High School and served with the U. S. Marine Corps in Vietnam.

Gary loved camping and fishing with his family and special friends, Ken Tucker and Jim Studniski (deceased).

He was always available for anyone who needed a helping hand, and his door was open to all, just like his heart. He was always ready for a "Wuz Up" for family and buddies.

Gary is survived by his wife, Jackie, of West Richland; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Ray Newton of West Richland; son and daughter-in-law, Austin and Melinda Slater of Richland; brothers and sisters-in-law: Rick ('67) and Vesta Slater, and Ron ('70) and Mary Slater; sister and brother-in-law, Glenda and Max Hansen; nieces and nephews: Tony, Jennifer, Kevin, Stephen, Savannah and Allie; also numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Vera.

A memorial service was held at the Richland Lutheran Church at 2:30 pm on Saturday, December 29, 2001 followed by a reception at the West Richland Municipal Golf Course at 4000 Fallon Drive in West Richland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri-City Cancer Center at 7350 W. Deschutes in Kennewick, WA 99336.
