JUDITH LARRAINE "JUDY" SHAW ~ Class of 1965
April 5, 1947 - December 2, 2023



Judith L. Shaw “Judy” was born April 5, 1947 to Al and Lola (Ferrians) Shaw in Traverse City, MI. Before her 1st birthday they would move to Richland where Al would begin his lifetime employment at Hanford. Judy attended Jason Lee Elementary, Chief Joseph Junior High, and graduated in 1965 from Richland's Columbia High School as a proud Bomber. She passed away on December 2, 2023.

Soon after graduation, she and a friend traveled to Seattle to look for work. She was employed by Boeing at various locations until the massive layoff of 1971. During her time in Seattle, she met Jim Bishop and began a long relationship. Together they moved to Burbank, WA and lived there for many years before moving on to Jim’s home state of Kentucky. There they had a son, James William Bishop ^III. Eventually they would part ways and Judy and “Billy” would move back to Richland and the home of her parents.

Judy became her parents' home health care provider and continued to do so until their passing.

Judy had many friends and loved to spend time with them in many ways. She enjoyed her time volunteering for Richland’s Volunteers in Police Service (VIPs) which inspired her to go to CBC and enroll in the criminal justice classes. She loved to play pool and would often spend the night playing and drinking for free because of her skill at winning at 8-Ball. She was a member of a Taco Tuesday dinner group who gathered weekly to enjoy dinner together occasionally having tacos.

One of Judy’s best friends was her younger sister Jeri (Shaw) Rodinsky ('73). In 1990, after the birth of her son, Judy’s nephew AJ, Jeri and her family moved into the other end of their parents' B-house duplex. Together Judy and Jeri shared the duties of helping their parents. In the years since their parents' passing they have been each other’s best company. Talking and texting and making each other laugh or supporting each other through hard times. As Judy got older many of the usual difficulties of doing so led to her nephew, AJ, to be her home health care helper. Their three lives were woven together and brought lots and lots of laughter and joy.

Judy is survived by her son James Bishop and his wife Sara, her sister Jeri Rodinsky ('73) and her nephew AJ Rodinsky. She also leaves behind her “niece” Chelsea Ackerman, and her granddaughter Dakota Bishop, and many, many friends who were as family to her.
