John Frederick Bradley, retired Sergeant Major, died at the age of 54 on Tuesday, December 26, 2000. He was born October 15, 1946 in Seattle to Larry and Ethna Bradley. His father worked at the Hanford Nuclear Plant and later became the Director of Energy for the state of Washington.

Mr. Bradley, a native of Seattle, grew up in Richland, home of the Hanford Nuclear Power Works, where he attended school graduating with the Class of 1965 from Richland's Columbia High School.

He entered the United States Army in 1966 and served for 26 years, retiring in 1992 with the rank of Sergeant Major. His military career included action in the Persian Gulf War, three tours in Germany and one tour in Korea. His final assignment was Senior Operations Sergeant Major at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, CA. Mr. Bradley was a history scholar.

A resident of Greenville for the past 18 months, he worked part-time at Bradford Creek Golf Course. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Surviving John are his wife, Lisa M. Bradley; daughter, Amy Inez Bradley of Redmond WA; son, Owen Kaluza Bradley of the home; and brothers: Michael Bradley ('56) of Kirkland, WA and Peter Bradley ('60) of Escondido, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Ethna Bradley.

A Mass of the Resurrection was held at 12:30 on Monday, January 1, 2001 at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors was at Pinewood Memorial Park in Greenville, NC.

Wilkerson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
