MICHAEL PERRY "MIKE" BLACK ~ Class of 1965
June 26, 1947 - December 5, 2020

Mike Black

Retired Air Force Lt. Colonel Michael Perry "Mike" Black passed away at his home on December 5, 2020. Mike had a melanoma growth cut out of his back four years ago. Apparently he did not follow up over the years, and his cancer spread to lungs, brain ..... He ended up with a mouth infection that was not clearing up with antibiotics. That is when the doctor looked further and found the cancer had returned and spread. There were no treatment options. He went pretty quickly after the cancer was rediscovered.

Michael was born in Richland on June 26, 1947, to Marvin Perry Black and Myrta Hertenstein-McIntire. He served in the military 23 years, earning his undergraduate degree in industrial engineering and graduate degree in business while traveling the world, before making Reno, NV his home.

He attended schools in Richland graduating with the Class of 1965 from Richland's Columbia High School.

Michael was a life energy force, a strong and quiet leader with eclectic tastes, integrity, and an unending pursuit of knowledge which was reflected in his many interests including fencing, photography, hiking, skiing, flying, traveling, reading, gardening, welding, and every home construction/improvement project. His thirst for life was unsurpassed. He was also a dedicated public servant, holding positions with both the Reno Housing Authority and Washoe County School District, in addition to being a proud member of the Reno Sunrise Rotary Club and business mentor with SCORE.

Michael is survived by Pamela, his wife of 24 years; his son and daughter: Alex Black and Theresa Black (Robert Pereida); step-son and step-daughter, Shane Rocha and Victoria Rocha; step-granddaughter; Arbor Pereida; grandaughter, Violet Pereida; his ex-wife of 20 years, Mary Ann Saba Carrico ('67); and numerous cousins, one of whom is Ellen Horne Dale ('67).

An outdoor celebration of life is tentatively scheduled for June 26, 2021 (his 74th birthday). Please contact Victoria Rocha (victoria.rocha13@gmail.com) and Theresa Black (black275@yahoo.com) if you are interested in attending.
