William Barrington "Chip" Abrams returned to his Heavenly Father on Wednesday evening, August 17, 2005 after courageously battling cancer. He was born in Richland on June 19, 1947 to Jean and Robert Abrams Jr.

Chip attended Jefferson Grade School, Chief Jo Junior High School and graduated with the Class of 1965 from Richland's Columbia High School. He then attended Washington State University and the University of Washington. In 1982 he received an MBA from Stanford University.

He taught Montessori in Palo Alto, CA during the 70's after studying it in Italy. After serving a mission for the LDS Church, he moved to Liberty Lake, WA in 1976 where he resided for the last 29 years.

Chip worked with his brother, Robb, as a construction manager from 1976-1984.

He married Linda Johnson in 1976, and they soon became the proud parents of four sons.

Chip had a love for learning. He taught math at Spokane Community College for 20 years where he made an indelible impact on many students. He also loved music and sang in church choirs as well as playing the guitar.

He loved to run, hike, camp and do just about anything that allowed him to be outdoors. He loved God and was very active in his LDS faith. Chip loved people, all people, and he was always fully engaged in the service of others. He was a genuine friend.

Chip is survived by his wife of 28 years, Linda; four sons: Benjamin (Erin), Samuel, John and Joseph Abrams; grandson, Tyler William Abrams; mother, Jean Abrams of Richland; siblings: Robb Abrams ('62) of Tacoma, Paul ('63) (Anna) Abrams of Mission Viejo, CA and Kathleen Abrams of Seattle; numerous nephews and nieces; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Abrams Jr, who passed away January 15, 2005.

Viewing was held from 9-10:30am with the Funeral Services at the Liberty Lake LDS Chapel (23515 E. Boone) at 11am on Saturday, August 27, 2005. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to "The Chip Abrams Scholarship Fund" through the Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation. Cheney Funeral Chapel in Cheney was in charge of the arrangements.
